Lesbian love story wins Palme D'or

French director Abdellafif Kechiche's lesbian love story La Vie d'Adele scoops the top honour at the Cannes festival. The director and its two stars picked up the Palme D'or for best picture at the end of the 12-day event. In an unusual move the award was shared between Kechiche and his two lead actresses Adele Exarchopoulos and Lea Seydoux as they were central to the film's success. It follows the course of their tumultuous relationship, including some explicit sex scenes that critics feared may put off the jury.
