Twin car bombs hit Dagestan

Two car bombs kill at least four people Monday in one of the bloodiest attacks this year in Dagestan, a turbulent province in Russia's North Caucasus region. Dozens were wounded in the attacks. Car bombs, suicide bombings and firefights are common in Dagestan, which is at the center of an Islamist insurgency. Authorities say the explosions took place within a few minutes near a government building and appears to have been detonated by remote control. The main suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, lived in Dagestan with his family about a decade ago and visited the region last year. At least 405 people were killed in Dagestan in violence linked to the insurgency last year, according to the Caucasian Knot website, which tracks developments in the region.
