Bolivian protests continue for a 10th day

Demonstrators clashed with police in Bolivia for the 10th straight day Wednesday (May 15) as they maintained roadblocks on major highways and marched through major cities including La Paz. Led by the Bolivian Workers Central, known by its Spanish acronym COB, the largest union group in the South American country, demonstrating workers have been growing in numbers as they demand the government overhaul a pension law they say is "discriminatory". Workers want a change to the country's pension law to guarantee 70 to 100 percent of current salaries in retirement payments, but the government of President Evo Morales has said the money simply is not there. Government officials have suggested the movement is politically motivated and aims to destabilize the government as Morales seeks a resolution that would allow him to run for a third consecutive term.
