North Korea: Permanent Kaesong shutdown would be South's fault

A North Korean newsreader says the South will be to blame if a jointly run industrial zone is shut down permanently. Quoting a government spokesperson, he says South Koreans will curse and blame their government for a long time if Kaesong is closed. "The responsibility for the total closure … will rest entirely with 'the puppet group','' he says. Earlier on Saturday, Seoul started to pull out its remaining workers from the factory park - a lucrative source of cash for the North - located close to the armed border. 126 workers, including one Chinese worker, have now returned, with the remaining 50 due to return on Monday. The decision by Seoul, which came after Pyongyang rejected a call for formal talks, deepens the conflict between the two countries. It also puts at risk their last remaining channel of exchange, which resulted from a breakthrough 2000 summit to improve ties.
