At least 273 dead in factory collapse

Search and rescue teams continue to search for survivors after a garment factory collapse in Savar, Bangladesh. The death toll now stands at 273. Officials say at least 2,000 of the more than 3000 workers inside the building at the time of the collapse on Wednesday have been rescued. At least 1,000 people are still unaccounted for. Rescuers from Bangladesh's army, navy and air force, as well as police and fire services, pored over huge piles of rubble and twisted metal in the search for survivors, using their bare hands as well as mechanical equipment. The building housed factories that made low-cost garments for Western brands.
