Aung San Suu Kyi visits Japan

Myanmar opposition party leader and Nobel Peace prize laureate Aung San Suu Kyi arrived on Tuesday in parliament to a standing ovation as Japan prepared to discuss aid to the Southeast Asian nation. After Myanmar's transition to democratic government in March 2011, Tokyo has stepped up efforts to help the fast-reforming country's drive to democracy and economic development, Kyodo news agency said. The news agency added that Japanese businesses are also vying to invest in Myanmar where the labour force is still relatively cheap and abundant. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said in parliament that his government supports the peace process between conflicting ethnic groups in Myanmar.
