Mandela on the mend

Former South African leader Nelson Mandela is on the mend as he responds to treatment for pneumonia according to government spokesman Mac Maharaj. (SOUNDBITE) (English) GOVERNMENT SPOKESMAN, MAC MAHARAJ, SAYING: "Doctors advised that Madiba had developed a pleural effusion which has since been tapped and this has now resulted in his being able to breath without difficulty. Madiba continues to respond to treatment and is comfortable." Outside his former home in Soweto the media is out in force as the 94-year old statesman spent his third night in hospital. South Africans send him their best.
