Pope Francis I leads world new bulletins

(ROUGH CUT ONLY - NO REPORTER NARRATION) The selection of Pope Francis I led newscasts around the world, including in the United States and Europe on Wednesday (March 13). Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Argentina was elected in a surprise choice to be the new leader of the troubled Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday (March 13), taking the name Francis I and becoming the first non-European pontiff in nearly 1,300 years. CBS and PBS both led with footage of the thousands of people celebrating in St. Peter's Square in Vatican City, as well as the announcement of the new Pope on the Vatican balcony. German, Spanish, French and Polish channels were also among world-wide broadcasters to have the papal succession high on their news agendas. The new Pontiff is known as a humble man who leads an austere and sober life without ostentation, travelling by public transport and living in a small apartment outside Buenos Aires.
