North Koreans celebrate Lunar New Year

It's a day of celebration here in North Korea. On Sunday crowds turned out to mark the Lunar New Year in Pyongyang, and to usher in the Year of the Snake. Footage filmed by official state media agency KCNA for Reuters shows North Koreans offering flowers to the statues of the country's founder Kim Il-sung and late leader Kim Jong-il. High ranking officials also attended performances by school children to honour the holiday. The festivities come as international tensions rise over a possible third nuclear test by North Korea. Last December, a rocket launch violated a U.N. resolution banning Pyongyang from developing missile or nuclear technology, after two nuclear tests in 2006 and 2009. North Korea says it has a sovereign right to launch rockets for peaceful purposes.
