Uruguay’s Carnival might not be as famous as Brazil’s but it has just as long a tradition – dating back to African rituals brought to the South American country by slaves in the colonial era. One of the twentieth century’s most famous Carnival faces is that of Julio Sosa – better known as Kanela – a male dancer who has been leading parades since the 1940s, in costumes just as sparkly and elaborate as any woman’s.Duration: 01:49
