Spielberg's "Lincoln" leads BAFTAs

Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln" is ahead of the pack in Britain's top film honours, picking up ten BAFTA nominations. This adds to its tally for the Golden Globes, and sets it on course for possible Oscar glory next month. But Spielberg himself did not revcieve a best director nod for the civil war set drama about President Abraham Lincoln's battle to end slavery. "Les Miserables" - based on the hit stage musical - scored nine BAFTA nominations. As did Ang Lee's shipwreck saga "Life of Pi" Ben Affleck was honoured with nods for Best Director, Best Actor and Best Film for "Argo" - which picked up seven nominations in total. Despite eight other nominations James Bond thriller "Skyfall" missed out on a best film nomination - this despite being the most successful film in British box office history. And unusually for a foreign langauge film, Austrian director Michael Haneke's Palme d'Or winning movie "Amour" bagged four nominations.
