34th anniversary of fall of Khmer Rouge

The Cambodia People's Party (CPP) and their supporters marked the 34th anniversary of the fall of the Khmer Rouge regime on Monday (January 7). On January 7, 1979, Vietnamese troops occupied Phnom Penh, driving Khmer Rouge leader Pol Pot to the Thai border. The occupation lasted 10 years. The Khmer Rouge regime occupied a bloody part of Cambodian history, where around 1.7 million people died from starvation, overwork and execution. On Monday, about 10,000 people attended a rally organised by the ruling party. Traditional Khmer dancers and drummers performed in front of CPP senior officials.
