Earthquakes

Seismologists have unveiled a map highlighting zones most prone to unleashing the world's biggest earthquakes. Their findings -- published by the European Geosciences Union -- show mega-quakes spring mostly from regions where fractures on the sea floor intersect with subduction zones, or zones where one slab of Earth's crust is diving slowly under another. Each year some 100,000 earthquakes are recorded across the world. Several people were killed when a moderate quake struck eastern Iran on Wednesday. VIDEOGRAPHIC
