Syrian jets attack rebel base near Turkish border

Panic near Turkey's border with Syria - after Syrian war planes attacked a rebel base on Monday. Opposition activists said the jets missed their target - near a refugee camp in the village of Atima and no injuries were reported. With more than 120,000 Syrians seeking refuge in southern Turkey, Syrian jets have bombed rebel targets in the area before - but this strike came closest to the border so far. The Turkish government has requested NATO missiles stationed along the border - and rebels said a Turkish jet was scrambled to the area. Meanwhile, amateur video said to be filmed on Sunday - appeared to show Syrian rebels capturing a helicopter base near Damascus. Activists said rebels destroyed two helicopters and took 15 prisoners at the Marj al-Sultan base - outside of the capital city. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said more than 40,000 have died in the 20-month civil war between the forces of President Bashar al-Assad and the rebels.
