Bombers target Pakistan's Shi'ites

Ambulances rush Pakistan bomb blast casualties to hospital. The explosion near a Shi'ite religious procession in northwest Pakistan on Sunday leaves at least five dead and 90 wounded in the city of Dera Ismail Khan, where a bomb killed at least seven people the previous day. Police said five security officials were among those hurt in Sunday's blast as the government struggles to contain sectarian Sunni militants. Storefronts were ripped open when the bomb detonated near a street market. Authorities have halted cellphone coverage in several areas to prevent bombings triggered by remote control. The've also restricted motorcycle travel, hoping to deprive suicide bombers of at least one mode of transportation. Sunni militants have threatened more attacks during the holy month of Muharram, whose peak is marked by Ashura - a day of mourning when Shi'ites practice self-flagellation to commemorate the martyrdom of the grandson of Prophet Mohammad.
