D-8 leaders conclude Pakistan summit

Leaders of D-8 countries, the economic bloc of eight developing nations with large Muslim populations, concluded a crucial summit in Islamabad on Thursday. The meeting took place as heavy fighting raged on in Syria and an uneasy truce came into effect in Gaza. Speaking at the summit, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad called for a new world order. I don't think that anybody will have any hope that the creators of this current unjust order can play a role in its reformation." The Iranian premier declared that the "era of capitalism and capitalists has come to an end." Taking over the chairmanship of the D-8 for the next two years is Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari. We always shared common bonds of religion and culture. But, today we are also bound, by the will and spirit of our people." The summit ended with leaders signing The Islamabad Declaration, reaffirming a "commitment to peace, democracy, [and] progress" among the people of the D8 member states.
