Lebanese PM offers his resignation

Fallout from the car bomb that killed eight people in Beirut. Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati offers his resignation SOUNDBITE: Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati saying (Arabic): "We are completely aware of how dangerous the situation is. Despite my offer to resign my position, the President has asked me to give him some time to hold national talks. I will not do anything further until I receive a response from the President. I am also aware that this situation calls upon us to take a national stance.'' In some of Lebanon's major cities, dozens of Sunni gunmen roamed the streets --- many of them furious about the killing of intelligence officer Wissam al-Hassan, a fellow Sunni. Hassan led the investigation that implicated Syria, and its Lebanese ally Hezbollah, in the assassination of Lebanon's former prime minister, Rafik al-Hariri. Friday's explosion deepened fears that violence in neighboring Syria is spilling over into Lebanon, and that the attack could be a harbinger of more violence to come.
