Johnny Depp hits Toronto to support film about West Memphis 3.

Johnny Depp hit the red carpet at the Toronto International Film Festival to support the documentary "West of Memphis," which details evidence that aims to exonerate three men convicted of crimes they did not commit. The trio, Damien Echols, Jesse Misskelley and Jason Baldwin served 18 years in prison for the 1993 murders of three young boys in Arkansas. Upon hearing of the case, Depp and other celebrities reached out to help. Evidence in the case mounted until September 2010, when the Arkansas Supreme Court heard arguments for reopening the case. The following month, it unanimously ruled in favor of the West Memphis Three, dismissing all of the state's arguments and overturning all of the judge's ruling. SOUNDBITE Johnny Depp saying (English): "Well, you know the fact that all the support is here for Damien and this film to take this all the way where it needs to be, this is an innocent man who served 18 years on death row, 10 years in solitary confinement where he didn't see a blade of grass or the sun. I mean, any of the wrongs can't be righted or relived but we can clear his name, clear the boys' names and go for exoneration." "West of Memphis" will be released in theaters on December 25th. Free public screenings are planned to be held in Arkansas.
