Former Police Chief, Wang Lijun Implicated in Forced Organ Harvesting in Taped Conversation

Gu Kailai’s verdict on Monday drew a line, for now at least, at the end of her case. But for the man whose flight to the US Consulate ultimately set the wheels in motion against Gu, the case remains unclear. Former police chief, Wang Lijun has not been heard from since February, but his absence hasn't stopped allegations from being brought against him. Those allegations include claims that Wang oversaw a research program that involved the taking of organs from imprisoned Falun Gong practitioners. Falun Gong is a spiritual meditation discipline that is brutally persecuted in China. This was back when Wang was the police chief of Jinzhou city, Liaoning Province. Wang's research involved developing drugs to facilitate the removal and transplant of organs. Earlier this month, the Worldwide Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong released a phone conversation between an investigator and a doctor who had cooperated with Wang’s research program. The doctor, Chen Rongshan, was the director of Urology of the 205 People's Liberation Army Hospital in Jinzhou. [Excerpt of conversation between Investigator and Chen Ronghsan, May 24, 2012][Investigator]“The organ sources include imprisoned Falun Gong people, is this the case?[Chen Rongshan]“It all came through the courts”[Investigator] “Through the courts”[Chen Rongshan]“Right, right…”In a separate conversation, Chen agreed to keep the matter a secret, when asked by another investigator posed as the secretary of Chen’s supervisor[Investigator]“Regardless of which higher level department investigates the taking of organs from Falun Gong practitioners for organ transplant, you cannot reveal any secrets whatsoever. Can you do that?”[Chen Rongshan]“Ah, yes, yes, yes.”NTD Senior China analyst, Heng He says despite these allegations against Wang, they will not be mentioned in any official trials involving him. That’s because the persecution of Falun Gong was a state-sanctioned campaign that implicated the entire Communist Party.[Heng He, NTD Senior China Analyst]:“If they bring out the live organ harvesting of Falun Gong practitioners against Wang, then anyone in the international community who engages with the Communist Party cannot continue that relationship because of the ethical implications. This will be lethal to the CCP, if it loses foreign support, it’ll face an impending collapse of the economy.”Following Gu Kailai’s trial on August 9th, there were rumors Wang was later tried in secrecy. Chinese authorities have denied those claims. There is still no confirmation on when and what official actions will be brought against him.
