Taiwan braces for Typhoon Saola after it hits the Philippines

Fishermen dock their boats in Taiwan on Tuesday. Further inland, farmers are collecting early harvests. They're bracing for Typhoon Saola, which is barrelling towards the island after causing heavy flooding in the Philippines. Ahead of the main storm's arrival, heavy rains hit a mountainous area in the northeast of the Island. At least one car was caught in the gushing water. Forecasters predict rain through Friday, and warn of possible landslides and road collapses. In the Philippines, at least eight people were killed and thousands were forced to flee their homes as the typhoon caused severe floods and landslides. But now the storm has passed, and it's time to mourn those lost, and to clean up -- as Saola churns towards Taiwan. Travis Brecher, Reuters
