Colorado shooting victims mourned

(ROUGH CUT ONLY - NO REPORTER NARRATION) The Aurora community gathered together on Friday (July 20) in a candlelight vigil to mourn the dozen people killed and scores of others wounded when a heavily armed gunman opened fire at a midnight showing of "The Dark Knight Rises." (SOUNDBITE) (English) MONIQUE ANDERSON, MOURNER, SAYING: "My daughter and I have lived here pretty much her whole life. She went to Gateway. We just live a block from here. It was just shocking to wake up this morning and see that this had happened right down the street from us. There were a lot of people that she went to school with that were in that theatre and we're still waiting to find out about them." The shooting at the Century Aurora 16 movie theatre allegedly was committed by James Holmes, a UC Riverside graduate who was taken into custody in the theatre's parking lot shortly after the gunfire broke out. The gunman wore what appeared to be a bullet-proof vest and riot-type mask as he opened fire in the theatre with three weapons. Residents gathered, still trying to come to terms with the tragedy. (SOUNDBITE) (English) JAMIE BENNETT, MOURNER, SAYING: "I have been a resident of Aurora for 40 years and I want my city taken back from evil. Whoever did this was evil. That is my theatre, where I take my granddaughter and where I've gone for years. All those people that died are in heaven. I believe that thoroughly." Time Warner-owned Warner Bros., the studio behind the film, faced the prospect of seeing the blockbuster sink at box offices after the shooting, even as the film got off to a strong start across the United States and Canada.
