Bin Laden dead, says US

The United States says it has finally killed Osama bin Laden. US President Barack Obama said this brought a nearly 10-year worldwide effort to a conclusion. A photograph purported to be of the al Qaeda terrorist organisation leader was released in cooperation with the authorities in Pakistan, where American special forces carried out a raid on Sunday afternoon. Washington said DNA testing ruled out any doubt that the militant Islamist leader is dead. Bin Laden was also identified by the US assault force in Pakistan. The US says bin Laden was traced to a compound in a relatively affluent suburb of Pakistan's capital, Islamabad. He is said to have resisted and was shot in the head during an exchange of fire in the compound. The body is said to have been taken to Afghanistan and then buried at sea.Powered by NewsLook.com Producer : EuroNews
