Video captures dramatic attack on Mexican newspaper

ROUGH CUT - NO REPORTER NARRATION STORY: Security camera images of a gang attack on a a Mexican newspaper in the city of Cordoba have gone viral. In November 2011, an armed gang burst into the offices of the El Buen Tono newspaper before dousing it with petrol and setting it alight, with CCTV footage detailing every moment of the chilling attack. More than a dozen armed men descended on the headquarters at midnight in November last year, breaking computers and terrorizing staff members. Some 20 employees were reportedly inside the building at the time. No one was killed in the attack, but one man was slightly injured. The security footage had been confiscated by police shortly after the attack and remained under their possession until recently. It was leaked back to the newspaper with journalists at the publication making the video viral to pressure authorities to speed up stalled investigations. With the attackers still at large, officials at the newspaper have criticized police investigations into the crime and called on the Veracruz state Attorney General Amadeo Flores to resign. Although the motive for the brazen attack is still to be determined, the outspoken newspaper is well known for publishing damning reports on local authorities in the city. Mexico's Gulf state of Veracruz has seen crime and violence spiral over the last year as rival cartels battle it out over lucrative smuggling drug routes and distribution points in the state.Auteur: reutersTags: and Cut burst captures into gang Closed narration images armed Gepost: 15 februari 2012Beoordeling: 0.0Stemmen: 0]]>
