Floods hit Peru

ROUGH CUT - NO REPORTER NARRATION Floodwaters ruined crops and spilled into homes on Monday (February 06) as rivers overflowed their banks in various parts of Peru. The Chili River in Arequipa in southeastern Peru lapped up against a bridge after days of heavy rain. In the town of Arequipa, people worked to bail out homes. The mountainous region of Chanchamayo saw muddy waters flooding crops in the coffee growing area. One local resident said officials weren't doing enough to stop the floodwaters. Parts of Tingo Maria in northern central Peru were also underwater, with flooded crops and streets.
