"Chronicle" tops box office, Johansson honored in Berlin

Teen boys with superpowers helped lift the movie box office to unexpected heights over Super Bowl weekend as thriller "Chronicle" brought in an estimated 22 million dollars at the North American box office. The movie finished just ahead of Daniel Radcliffe's haunted house film "Woman in Black," which took in an estimated 21 million dollars. Both films surpassed projections from studio executives, who had expected weaker sales against competition from Sunday's (February 05) Super Bowl football game. Rounding out the top three was Liam Neeson thriller "The Grey," which took in 9.5 million. The stars were out in Germany at Berlin's 47th Golden Camera awards. Scarlett Johansson picked up the best international actress award and Denzel Washington was honored as best international actor. Morgan Freeman was also in attendance. He received a lifetime achievement award. Jason Segel has been honored as Man of the Year by Harvard University's Hasty Pudding Theatricals. The actor got the traditional pudding pot and a roast in his honor. The university's undergraduate drama troupe is the oldest in the U.S. They honored Claire Danes as Woman of the Year last month. Finally, Gerard Depardieu has reportedly signed on to star as Dominique Strauss-Kahn in a film about the sex scandal that caused the former IMF chief to resign. No word yet on a projected release date. Bob Mezan, Reuters.
