Egypt clashes intensify

A stand-off between police and protesters continues in Cairo. Rows of riot police blocked off key government buildings on Saturday, occasionally firing volleys of tear gas at demonstrators. This marks the third straight day of clashes in Egypt. Anger here is mounting with the country's interim government, which has been blamed for a bloody soccer riot that killed 74 fans on Wednesday. On Friday, at least three people died as protesters stormed through barricades in the Egyptian capital and surrounded government buildings. (SOUNDBITE)(Arabic) PROTESTER, ASHRAF SAID "They fired teargas and then they said we were attacking them. The protests were peaceful, our friends died yesterday and others have been wounded, who will get back their rights? We are demanding a swifter purge of the police authorities and the Minister of the Interior should reign." Egypt's military leaders have promised to hand over power to an elected government by the end of June.
