Building collapses in Rio

ROUGH CUT - NO REPORTER NARRATION One building collapse and another partially collapsed in Rio de Janeiro's downtown district on Wednesday night (January 25) following an explosion likely caused by a leaking gas pipe. At least 11 people were injured or possibly dead as initial reports were still unclear. Rescue workers searched through the rubble for more victims while fire trucks threw water to clean the dust from the area. Civil defense officials have not released details on the exact number of injured or dead. Months ago a restaurant blew up in Rio's downtown area due to a natural gas leak. Police were still investigating the exact causes of the explosion which triggered the collapses. Rio's Mayor Eduardo Paes went to the collapse site to evaluate the damage in the area, which is a busy business neighborhood. Brazilian media reported that the building was old and did not receive frequent maintenance inspections.
