He was charged with "subversion" for writing a poem that encourages people to stand up for their freedom. Here's more. One of the founders of the China Democracy Party, Zhu Yufu, is charged with "inciting subversion of state power" for writing a poem the Chinese Communist Party considers "reactionary".According to Zhu's lawyer, Li Dunyong, the main reason for the indictment is because Zhu wrote the poem around the time of the Jasmine Revolution. The poem, titled "It's time," urges people to stand up for their rights and freedom. The first verse reads: "It's time, Chinese people! It's time/ The Square is ours/ the feet are ours/ it's time to use our feet and to go to the Square and make a choice."Li said he would defend Zhu on the basis of freedom of expression, but hope for a victory is very slim. He also said, "You can't be optimistic about anything in China. In this country, he'll be punished harshly."Zhu Yufu has been detained since last March. Though the authorities withdrew the accusation last October, he hasn't been released. The Chinese regime decided to prosecute him instead.
