Le journal d’Anne Frank a connu un immense retentissement à travers le monde, par son originalité, sa spontanéité, sa valeur littéraire certaine, mais surtout par l’intérêt extrême de cette relation de la séquestration volontaire de deux familles israélites : la famille Frank, qui avait deux enfants, donc quatre personnes, et la famille Van Daan, un fils, trois personnes, auxquelles s’est adjoint un célibataire qui était dentiste. Ces huit personnes se sont donc cachées dans un bâtiment pendant deux ans à Amsterdam, du 9 juillet 1942 au 4 août 1944, pour échapper à la Gestapo et aux camps de concentration. Le journal débute le vendredi 12 juin 1942.
