À la suite de la publication de Mythe et images du Juif au Québec, j’avais été sollicité à prononcer plusieurs conférences sur les rapports entre Juifs et Québécois. L’arrivée au pouvoir en 1976 du Parti québécois, qui préconisait la souveraineté du Québec, rendait les rapports pour le moins tendus avec la communauté juive dont la grande majorité de ses membres avait été formée par les institutions de langue anglaise (écoles, universités, médias).
