Avec la mondialisation et l’inévitable brassage de cultures qui en découle, les risques d’incompréhension entre les peuples augmentent. En Occident, les réflexions, visant à défendre les cultures locales (ancestrales) contre celles des immigrants jugées difficilement assimilables, se multiplient. Pourtant, l’Occident s’est longtemps prévalu d’une tradition universaliste héritée des lumières ; laquelle tradition était théoriquement basée sur l’humanisme défendue par plusieurs de ses adeptes : Montesquieu, Voltaire, etc.
